2021 started as a year with promise. We were finally going to be on the other side of the pandemic once COVID-19 vaccines were available and a form of post-pandemic normalcy would begin to be established. And it looked like that was where we were headed until…we weren’t and the end of 2021 started to look like the beginning of 2020. Nothing was spared during this topsy turvy year, including the movies. There were some good movies released this year, but aside from a franchise starter like Dune, nothing felt great or epic this year as the industry seemed to still be feeling the effects of having to adapt to this pandemic after the upheaval it has caused. Is this an anomaly due to our ongoing circumstances or a harbinger of the direction American cinema is headed in as the only movies that audiences seemingly have any level of interest in continues to narrow toward children’s comic book movies exclusively? Only time will tell. Below is our ranking of the 60 releases we watched and reviewed this year.
